Linen (flax)
Linen is the strongest of all natural fibres. It is made from the fibres obtained from inside the woody stem of the flax plant. The fabric retains its shape well, breathes, is absorbent and alkali resistant. It is not crease free, but can be made crease resistant with the addition of synthetic yarns. Linen yarns show natural thickenings on the surface; this is what gives linen textiles their special character.
